Stories and data.

Stories only our data can tell, released on their dates, and the subjects our founder, Joe M., can comment on in writing.

October half term 2026 · released

In Surrey, October half term lasts two weeks. For most of its neighbours, it lasts one.

Surrey County Council’s community and voluntary controlled schools break for two weeks this October half term, 19–30 October 2026. Its published dates for 2027–28 show a one-week October half term again, 25–29 October 2027. Of the 12 neighbouring councils whose dates we publish, 11 break for one week, 26–30 October 2026, and Bromley matches Surrey’s two weeks. For a family with a home or a school on each side of Surrey’s boundary with one of those 11 councils, 19–23 October 2026 is the week that doesn’t line up.

Key figures

  • Surrey: 19–30 October 2026, two weeks.
  • 11 of the 12 neighbouring councils whose dates we publish: 26–30 October 2026. They are Bracknell Forest, Croydon, East Sussex, Hampshire, Hounslow, Kent, Kingston upon Thames, Slough, Sutton, West Sussex and Windsor and Maidenhead.
  • Bromley: 19–30 October 2026, the same as Surrey.
  • Across Great Britain, 60 of the 400 neighbouring council pairs we can compare have different October half terms in 2026.

Method

  • Dates are each council’s own published calendar, the same data as our council term-dates pages.
  • Two councils are neighbours when they share at least 200 metres of land boundary, using the Office for National Statistics’ Counties and Unitary Authorities (December 2025) boundaries.
  • A pair’s dates are different when the first or last day of the break differs. “No weekday in common” means not one Monday to Friday falls in both breaks.
  • The full method, and every pair for every break: neighbouring councils with different school holidays.

Caveats

  • These are council dates, not every child’s. In England, academies, free schools, voluntary aided and foundation schools can set their own dates.
  • Surrey has 14 neighbouring councils in all. We don’t count the other 2, because we publish a council’s dates only once we have verified them.
  • Check both councils’ own pages before you publish a date.

We checked every named council’s dates against its own published calendar on .

Long, about 150 words 165 words

ParentGlow is a co-parenting app for separated parents in the UK. It puts life across two homes in one place: a calendar and handovers, messaging, shared expenses and a record for each child. It covers UK school terms, bank holidays, pounds and UK family-law language. Its message helper, Tone Guard, uses an AI check from a specialist AI service to flag heated wording in a draft. Only the draft text is sent; nothing about the account, family or children goes with it, and the check does not store the draft. A parent can ask for a calmer version and choose whether to use it. If a proposal note is flagged, its result stays with the note. Records export in a court-ready format, and exporting a family’s whole record is always free. At launch, one plan covers both parents: £5.99 a month or £59.99 a year. ParentGlow is in pre-launch early access, founded by Joe M. It also publishes free school term dates for UK councils.

Writing about us.

  • Write the name as ParentGlow: one word, with a capital P and a capital G.
  • Credit the founder as Joe M., Founder of ParentGlow.
  • We use the language of UK family law: child arrangements and contact time, not custody.

Please don’t describe ParentGlow as…

  • court approved, or approved or endorsed by a court, Cafcass or the government. It isn’t. Its exports are designed to be court-ready, which is a different thing: a tidy, honest record.
  • admissible. A court-ready export is a tidy, honest record, not a guarantee of any outcome.
  • legal advice, a legal service, mediation or a safeguarding service. ParentGlow is a co-parenting tool.
  • free. It is free during early access. At launch it costs £5.99 a month or £59.99 a year per family.
  • available to download. It isn’t in the App Store or Google Play yet.

Questions journalists ask

The straight answers.

Can people download ParentGlow now?

Not yet. ParentGlow is in pre-launch early access and isn’t in the App Store or Google Play. No launch date has been announced. Parents can join the early-access list at parentglow.co.uk.

How much will ParentGlow cost?

At launch, £5.99 a month or £59.99 a year per family, with one plan covering both parents. It is free during early access. Families who join early pay a lower, time-limited founding price for their first months after the free period, then the standard price, and families on the early-access list get it for longer. Exporting a family’s whole record is always free. Prices checked 5 October 2026.

Who is behind ParentGlow?

ParentGlow was founded by Joe M. ParentGlow is an independent co-parenting app, built and operated in the United Kingdom as a sole trader. Please credit him as Joe M., Founder of ParentGlow.

Can Joe comment on my story?

Yes, in writing. Joe comments on co-parenting and school holidays. Email hello@parentglow.co.uk with your questions and your deadline. He answers in writing only, so he isn’t available for phone, video or broadcast interviews.

Can you put me in touch with families who use ParentGlow?

No. We don’t share anyone’s details or put families forward for stories. The app isn’t released yet, and the people on our early-access list have agreed to hear from us about early access, nothing more.

Is ParentGlow approved by the courts or Cafcass?

No. ParentGlow isn’t approved or endorsed by any court, by Cafcass or by the government, so please don’t describe it that way. Its exports are designed to be court-ready: a tidy, honest record a parent can share, not a guarantee of any outcome.

Does ParentGlow give legal advice?

No. ParentGlow is a co-parenting tool — not legal advice, mediation or a safeguarding service. Our guides are general information for parents in England and Wales, and they point to GOV.UK, Cafcass and other official sources.

Does ParentGlow use AI?

Yes, in Tone Guard, the app’s message helper. A specialist AI service checks the draft once a parent pauses typing and flags wording that might read as heated. Only the draft text is sent; nothing about the account, family or children goes with it, and the draft is not stored by the check. On a flagged message the parent can ask for a calmer version, choose whether to use it, change it or ignore it; nothing is sent until they press send. If a proposal note is sent with a Tone Guard flag, its result is kept with that note.

Where do your school term-dates figures come from, and can we use them?

From each council’s own published calendar: our methodology page explains how we source and check them. Council dates cover community and voluntary controlled schools, and academies and some other schools set their own. You are welcome to use our figures. Please credit ParentGlow, link to the page you used, and check both councils’ own pages before you publish a date.
